Ian work 1

LWLA’s lead designer Ian Caton recently presented at the 2013 Land Ethics Symposium, an annual one-day conference organized by Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve.

Ian’s presentation, entitled “Overlooked Plant Characteristics: Expanding the Criteria for Selecting Plants,” explored how plants interact spatially, migrate in the landscape, and participate in the unfolding process of ecological succession. Ian explained how these and other plant characteristics are often overlooked or not fully appreciated in gardening and landscape design but are crucial to establishing regenerative native landscapes.
